The power will be supplied to Amazon by 2024.
Itochu Corporation has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the e-commerce platform Amazon in Japan through its portfolio company Clean Energy Connect (CEC).
Under the PPA, CEC and Amazon will develop non-feed-in tariff solar plants in 700 locations that will generate 70-megawatt (MW), direct current, and 38MW, alternating current power.
The power will be delivered to Amazon in Japan by 2024, in line with the company’s goal to source all of the energy it uses in its business operations from renewable sources by 2025.
Itochu has been supporting the development and financing of solar plants since November 2021 to reach around 5,000 solar plants with additionally in Japan with a total output of 500MW by 2025.
