The two exploration permits will cover ten municipalities in the territory of Upper Lazio or Viterbo. The first area identified as “Tuscania” has a coverage of 71.2 square kilometers and will encompass Tuscania, Monte Romano, and Viterbo. The second area, called “Arlena di Castro,” has a land coverage of 91.4 square kilometers and will encompass the municipalities of Cellere, Capodimonte, Marta, Canino, Arlena di Castro, Tuscania, Piansano, and Tessennano.
The details of the proposals have been sent to the relevant local administrations, as well as the Ministry of Culture, Arpa, and the Basin Authority. According to the proposal by Futuro Energia, conditions in the proposed areas support the potential presence of a geothermal reservoir with a temperature of at least 100 degrees Celsius. However, this must be verified via surface exploration and drilling of exploratory wells.
The proposals are publicly accessible and can be commented on within and no later than 30 days.
Futuro Energia estimates that the proposed work will take about 13 months and will have an overall cost of EUR 120,00 for magnetotelluric surveys and data processing.
