During a recent meeting, representatives of Entidad Binacional Yacyreta (EBY), the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) and Sociedad Anonima met to analyze the future construction of an intermedia hydro station between the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Aña Cuá project.
The 3.2 GW Yacyreta plant is located on the Main Arm of the Parana River between Paraguay and Argentina. The Yacyreta powerhouse contains 20 Kaplan turbine-generator units. On the Ana Cua Arm of the river, a dam with 16 radial gates was built. The 270 MW Aña Cuá project is currently under construction.
The meeting was held between the directors of the Yacyretá Binational Entity, Nicanor Duarte Frutos (Paraguayan margin); Fernando De Vido (Argentine margin); the president of the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), Félix Sosa and the general manager of the Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company Sociedad Anónima (CAMMESA), Sebastián Bonetto.
Participants analyzed the future construction of an intermediate station between Yacyretá and Aña Cuá, which would involve the installation of three turbine-generator units. Other technical details on this facility, including its generating capacity and location, were not disclosed.
“We have analyzed the intermediate station and its complexities, the projects that are under discussion; Aña Cuá has no continuity problems, we are advancing the work in a very important way,” said Nicanor Duarte Frutos, Paraguayan director of EBY.
Félix Sosa, president of ANDE, said it was important to discuss how to avoid interrupting the work to bring the Ana Cua hydroelectric power plant into commercial operation, as it is very important for both countries.
At the end of the meeting, the participants reported that they will continue to technically analyze the alternatives that are available for the intermediate station.
