“As the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project takes the mainstage in US offshore wind development, it will attract the interest and scrutiny of future industry stakeholders and investors. Manufacturing of the components for the new US offshore wind farm began in the fourth quarter of 2022. K2M will start its work this month and expects to complete activities under its contract with Dominion Energy in April 2027.
The two companies will also partner to include local Hampton Roads businesses and workers in this project, according to K2M.
Offshore construction of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, located 27 miles (some 43 kilometres) off the coast of Virginia Beach, is scheduled to be completed in late 2026.
The commercial-scale offshore wind farm will comprise 176 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines.
Once fully operational, the 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project will be able to generate enough electricity to power up to 660,000 households.
