Bluenergy Solutions has launched its tidal energy “proof of value” (POV) project, which entails a “plug and play” solution that covers energy generation via tidal power, storage and distribution.
The project is located offshore near the Raffles Lighthouse on Pulau Satumu, about 14 km south of the main island of Singapore. Planned to run for six months, the POV project is intended to meet four key objectives:
Bluenergy Solutions’ tidal turbines offer a capacity up to 100 kW and can harness energy from oceans, fast flowing streams and low flows in coastal and remote island locations, according to the website. To provide a baseload supply, the company will use lithium ion batteries, flow batteries and hydrogen storage, depending on location. And energy will be distributed via conventional power cables for off-grid sites.
The technology can be combined with wind and solar generation to offer a total green energy solution, Bluenergy Solutions said. It also offers a proprietary digital platform, specifically designed for the marine energy sector. While monitoring energy generation, storage and distribution operations, it will also enable end users to purchase energy directly from the platform.
