Brazil has put into operation 2,405 MW of wind and solar power generation capacity in the first quarter of 2023, power sector regulator Aneel announced on Thursday.
Wind farms represent the largest portion, accounting for some 1,485 MW of the capacity connected to the grid in January-March, while solar parks contributed 920.2 MW.
Overall, 2,746.5 MW of power generating capacity was added to the national grid in the first three months of the year, including 278.1 MW of thermal energy and 63.2 MW hydro sources.
In March alone, Brazil added 708.4 MW to its grid, of which 338.5 MW comes from wind, 340.3 MW from solar, 21.3 MW from small hydro and 8.3 MW from thermal plants.
The country started the month of April with 191,323.9 MW of authorised power. As much as 83.6% of the total is produced from renewable sources, the agency noted.
