The 400kV power transmission link is set to start operations in Q1 2026 and will connect the Ibri IPP 400kV grid station on the Oman side with the Silaa grid station in Abu Dhabi.
Oman’s main grid operator, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), has announced that the country’s second interconnection with the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) is in the design phase.
The 400kV power transmission link is set to start operations in Q1 2026 and will connect the Ibri IPP 400kV grid station on the Oman side with the Silaa grid station in Abu Dhabi.
The project also involves constructing two 400kV Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) at Ibri.
The second interconnection will increase the transfer capability between Oman and GCCIA network to 1,600 MW.
In January 2023, the project was reported to cost $660m by Oman Daily Observer.
