The project aims to recover 600 million cubic feet of gas currently being flared in oil fields located in Basra, Iraq
Iraq’s Oil Minister, Hayan Abdul Ghani, announced that the country will sign an investment contract with France’s TotalEnergies for a flare gas recovery project in two weeks.
The project aims to recover 600 million cubic feet of gas currently being flared in oil fields located in Basra, Iraq.
The Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) is a key component of a long-delayed $27 billion energy project agreement that TotalEnergies reached with the Iraqi government in April 2023.
The GGIP project intends to improve Iraq’s electricity supply by recovering flared gas from three oil fields to supply power generation plants.
Another report by Iraq’s state-owned news agency, INA, said that the country will launch its sixth hydrocarbon exploration licensing round within the next two months.
The licensing round will cover three provinces in the Western region, with a focus on gas exploration in line with the government’s objective to reduce gas imports.
