10,000 New Tesla EVs on Their Way to Australia

Tesla has so far had a stellar year when it comes to EV sales in Australia. Over 14,000 new Model 3 and Model Ys were delivered in the first four months of 2023.

With the ramp-up of production in Shanghai, Tesla has significantly improved deliveries to the Australian market in 2023.

The latest reports from Tesla ship tracking expert, VedaPrime, indicate that there are over 10,000 Teslas allocated to Australian buyers this quarter.

As per the report, the number of ships with Tesla EVs on them has also been increasing and now stands at 10 for the quarter with more to come.

For some context, in 2021, Tesla delivered a total of 12,000 vehicles to the Australian market, followed by 19,554 EVs in 2022.

The breakdown of the Models shows Model 3 ahead of Model Y when it comes to YTD sales. But this appears set to be reversed.

VedaPrime’s analysis of shipments suggests 85% of the vehicles shipped this quarter are the Model Y SUV, now the world’s best-selling car, and the Model 3 sales are likely to dip from April’s high of 1,581 for the rest of the quarter.

This could be due to a slowdown in Model 3 production in Shanghai as Tesla prepares to start producing the highly speculated refreshed version of Australia’s most popular electric car.

The new Model 3 has been reported to be “Longer, sportier” and is supposed to go into trial production, in June according to a report from earlier this month.

The news of thousands more EVs could only be a good thing for EV adoption. More supply is likely to put downward pressure on the prices of used EVs as well.

That opens the door for many more people to get behind the wheel of an EV and ditch ICE vehicles forever.
