After a successful project engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and offshore hook-up, the Hollandse Kust Noord platform take-over is now official by signing off the Taking-Over certificate.
In March 2020, TenneT awarded the joint venture Equans-Smulders the contract to design, engineer, produce, deliver, transport, and install a 700 MW offshore substation for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm.
In April this year, TenneT announced that the grid connection for the wind farm is ready for commissioning after receiving a “grid ready” certificate.
The joint venture did work with the shortest possible chain from raw material to installation, the companies said.
Steel and corrosion protection systems were purchased from European suppliers with an Environmental Product Declaration and all steel constructions and outfitting were executed in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Furthermore, the substructure of the platform was outfitted with eco-friendly solutions such as the so-called “fish hotels”. Eco blocks and reef balls were installed on the scour bed underneath the platform.
The Hollande Kust Noord offshore wind project will be built and operated by the CrossWind consortium between Shell and Eneco, which won the tender in July 2020, without government subsidies.
The consortium plans to have the offshore wind farm operational in 2023, from when it will be generating at least 3.3 TWh per year.
The Equans-Smulders joint venture is also the contractor for TenneT’s Hollandse Kust West Alpha and the Hollandse Kust West Beta platform.
The construction of both platforms is currently ongoing and is planned to be completed by the end of 2023 and the middle of 2025, respectively.
