Project supported by Zafer Development Agency, Kula Municipality, and 3 Ministries
A geothermal greenhouse project is being implemented in an area of 135,000 square meters in cooperation with the Zafer Development Agency, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Kula Municipality in order to utilize high potential hot water resources near Sehitlioglu District.
It is aimed to start production after 4 months with the work that will set an example for the farmers in the region on greenhouse cultivation and the use of thermal resources.
With the geothermal greenhouse to be established with an investment of approximately 95 million liras (approx. USD 4 million), an annual supply of 2000 tons of tomatoes to the domestic and foreign markets will be provided.
Geothermal resources of the region will be evaluated
Expressing that they aim to evaluate the potential of the region with its rich hot water resources, Kula Mayor Huseyin Tosun emphasized that the project will provide added value to the region, and said that the greenhouse will set an example for the region’s agriculture. In this sense, they expect similar investments in the coming years.

Emphasizing that Kula’s geothermal water has been wasted for years, Tosun said:
“We started a study as Zafer Development Agency, Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Kula Municipality for the evaluation of thermal water. Within the scope of this study, we started the installation of a hydroponic technological greenhouse on an area of 50 decares. This place is over 135 acres. We have carried out serious excavation work here and we have come to an end. By about 4 months, this place will be completely finished, after that, it will serve Turkish agriculture.”
Stating that approximately 150 people will be employed in the first phase, Tosun said, “Hopefully, our farmers in the region will meet soilless agriculture and start the installation of greenhouses.”
