NPPD Finalizes Route for Kearney Power Project

The new eight-mile long 115 kV transmission line will connect Kearney TechOne substation on the east side of Kearney and the Tower substation on the west side.

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has finalized the route for the Kearney Power Project, establishing an important pathway for a new eight-mile long 115 kV transmission line connecting two local substations.

Property owners along the route will be informed about the project’s progress, giving them an opportunity to seek clarification, provide additional property information, and contribute insights regarding land-use considerations.

NPPD's Right of Way agents will engage in discussions with each landowner to negotiate right-of-entry agreements. These agreements will grant NPPD permission to carry out essential activities such as environmental assessments, surveying, engineering evaluations, and structural spotting assessments. Furthermore, NPPD's crews will employ drones to conduct surveys along the designated route, facilitating the preparations for the forthcoming construction of the new transmission line.

The transmission line will bridge the gap between the Kearney TechOne substation on the east side of Kearney and the Tower substation on the west side. This expansion aims to augment the transmission system's capacity, ensuring it can accommodate the rising demand and enhance the reliability and resilience of the electrical infrastructure in the Kearney area.

The construction of the new line is tentatively scheduled to start in the fall or winter of 2024 and reach completion in the spring of 2025.
