Under the contract, KEPCO E&C will perform as the FEED contractor for onshore cable route design and onshore substations of the Gray Whale 3 offshore wind farm.
The 504 MW project is planned to be constructed around 60 to 70 kilometres from Onsan Port.
The BadaEnergy portfolio, developed jointly by TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and SK Ecoplant, comprises both floating and bottom-fixed projects off the coast of Ulsan and South Jeolla province, including the 1.5 GW Grey Whale projects, one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind developments.
SK Ecoplant decided to join forces with TotalEnergies and Corio Genera in September last year.
In October 2022, the consortium awarded DORIS and Hyundai Heavy Industries a FEED contract which covered the full integrated scope of activities related to the floating units.
A year before, the developers received an electric business license (EBL) from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy’s Electricity Regulatory Commission for the project’s first phase of 504 MW.
According to the companies, this was the first floating offshore wind project in Korea to be awarded an EBL.
