Aydin is the leader in Turkey with 887.98 megawatts of installed geothermal energy, most of which consists of licensed power plants. AydIn is followed by Denizli with 379.43 megawatts, Manisa with 378.74 megawatts, Çanakkale with 30.45 megawatts, ?zmir with 12 megawatts, and Afyonkarahisar with 2.76 megawatts.
While Turkey’s installed capacity for geothermal power is increasing steadily every year, the use of this type of energy in areas such as residential heating, agricultural activities, and the food sector is also becoming widespread.
Ufuk Sentürk, President of the Geothermal Power Plant Investors Association (JESDER), in an interview with the AA correspondent, said that the price update of the new Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism (YEKDEM), which came into effect as of May 1, will accelerate long-standing geothermal energy investments and continued:
“According to the decision, the fixed price purchase period to be applied for geothermal power plants, which are among the power plants with high investment costs, will be 15 years and the application period for the domestic contribution margin additional price will be 5 years. With the regulation, the longest support period was given to geothermal power plants and pumped-storage hydroelectric power plants.”
“According to the update, support payment for GPPs will be 202 cents per kilowatt-hour, the base price will be 9.45 cents per kilowatt-hour, and the ceiling price will be 11.55 cents per kilowatt-hour. The domestic contribution will be applied as 28.80 kuru? per kilowatt-hour for GPPs. Thanks to the long-term support, GPPs will also have the opportunity to provide long-term financing.”
