Four organizations serving Arizona communities impacted by coal-fired power plant retirements will receive economic development grants.

The City of Show Low, City of St. Johns, St. Johns Unified School District and Grow Arizona will each receive $25,000 from Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP) and Tucson Electric Power (TEP). The funding will support developing new economic strategies for the communities.

In April we reported the three utilities pledged a combined $1 million to help secure grant funding for coal communities affected by plant retirements in the state.

The second grant application cycle is currently open with an application deadline of August 15, 2023.

The Utilities’ Grant Program builds on efforts like the Arizona Commerce Authority’s $9.7 million Broadband Development grant for each of the Apache and Navajo counties.
