Rock-Pipe™ is a completion technology that allows for the permanent isolation of working fluids within Eavor’s closed-loop geothermal system. It is primarily used to seal the open horizontal section of the Eavor-Loop™ wells.
The Rock-Pipe™ has already been used in the Eavor-Lite demonstration project located near Rocky House Mountain in Alberta, Canada. The performance of the demonstration project had been validated in 2020 and hit a 2-year milestone at the end of 2021. During this time, Eavor-Lite had produced over 11,250 MWh of energy – enough to heat 450 Canadian homes for a year.
The demonstration in the video was done by Vlad Zatonski, Senior Technology Development Engineer, and Mo Abouelhassen, Senior Porcess Engineer. The video provides great insight on how a permeable medium can be rendered impermeable through surface treatment. This is a critical component for closed-loop geothermal systems that need to seal off permeable zones in the subsurface in order to have a high retention of working fluids.
