Boskalis has installed 31 out of 62 jacket foundations at the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farm in Taiwan, which means the project has reached the halfway mark.
After finishing the installation of 108 pin piles a month ago, Boskalis has reached another milestone on the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind project, with the installation of 31 three-legged jacket foundations.
The company deployed its Bokalift 1 crane vessel for this mission and it was supported by construction support vessels BOKA Atlantic and BOKA Tiamat for pile cleaning, grouting, and other essential supporting activities.
Boskalis completed the first phase of foundation installation in July of last year. The units from the first phase were transported from the Port of Taipei and installed at the site by Bokalift 2 which had joined the project after undergoing a conversion from a drillship into a DP2 crane vessel.
Boskalis is responsible for the transportation and installation of the wind farm’s 62 jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles. The Dutch company is carrying out the work in a joint venture with Taiwan’s Hwa Chi Construction Co.
The 589 MW Changfang and Xidao wind farm will comprise 62 Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbines, the first of which was installed in July of last year.
The offshore wind project – owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which holds the majority stake, and by two local life insurance companies, Taiwan Life Insurance, and TransGlobe Life Insurance –is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2024.
