The first concrete for the fourth generating unit of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt is expected to be poured in November 2023, the in-house publication of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Strana Rosatom reported, citing the chairman of Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Amgad El-Wakeel.
The event is scheduled to coincide with Nuclear Energy Day, which Egypt marks on November 19, the report said.
Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant in November 2015. The EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the El Dabaa NPP was signed at the end of 2016. The project calls for building four 1,200-MW generating units with VVER-1200 reactors.
Rosatom began building the third unit of the plant in May 2023, and construction of all four units is scheduled for completion in 2028-2029.
