Tesla CEO Hints on Cybertruck Pricing After Rival Electric Ute Slashes Asking Price

Earlier this week Tesla announced that it had produced its first Cybertruck. No official confirmation on the pricing was released.

Now, we may have an indication of what the pricing of its base variant could be. Replying to a Tweet on the recent price reductions of the Ford F150 Lightning, Elon Musk commented by saying the pricing of that vehicle was on the high end:

“The Ford Lightning is a good vehicle, just somewhat expensive, especially given the high interest rates these days for any kind of loan”.

Ford announced a price reduction this week for the electric F150 Lightning by as much as $US10,000, bringing the entry-level price to $US50,000.

The pricing of an entry-level single-motor Cybertruck was $39,990 back in 2019 when it was first unveiled. Now with all that’s happened in the last couple of years, the Tesla team has hinted that it would be higher than the original price.

With Musk’s latest comments comparing it to the F150 Lightining price cuts, it indicates that the entry-level pricing might be a bit under $50,000 which would bring it closer to the originally announced price.

The original Cybertruck announcement included three variants. A single, dual and tri-motor powertrain setup was revealed. Since then, there has been a quad-motor variant that has been reported with quad-motors.

Although many didn’t believe that the Cybertruck would ever make it to production, it still garnered over a million reservations, according to unofficial community order trackers.

These Cybertruck reservation holders were also given a heads up on what to expect from a product point of view when the Cybertruck did launch at a recent earnings call. Musk at that time said:

“One thing I can confidently say is that it is an incredible product, it’s a hall of famer, I think. And a product like this only comes along once, once in a long while. People will not be disappointed in it at all, It’s amazing”.

With pricing and specs of the Cybertruck to be announced as part of a delivery event this quarter, this latest comment from Musk gives a good idea of what the entry-level pricing might be.
