Tesla has been lowering prices for most of this year but now there is a used Tesla Model 3 with nearly 6,000 km that has a wild asking price of $150,000.
This is by far the highest asking price for a used Tesla Model 3 ever listed in the country and is currently listed on carsales.
The Victorian-based Model 3 is a top-of-the-range Performance variant in blue with an upgraded white interior and is described by the seller as “one-of-a-kind”:
“EVJET – not one for the faint-hearted. Here we have a one-of-a-kind performance model which truly stand out from the crowd. If you’re craving to own an EV and enjoy all its benefits, yet still drive a unique & absolute head turner, then this might just be for you.”
There are several exterior and interior aftermarket upgrades on this car, including an aftermarket wheels, a visual body kit, carbon-fibre covers on various parts inside and outside.
Several audio-visual upgrades are also done to this car such as aftermarket touch screen with additional Android Auto and Apple Carplay capabilities.
Many of these can void the warranty of the car and not something many general insurers like to insure while on the road. That’s one thing to consider when purchasing any modified vehicle, not just this unique electric offering.
On top of the asking price, there are other state fees worth considering. For this Model 3 in Victoria, it is slugged with a motor vehicle duty of $6,300 along with a $43,70 transfer fee, bringing the total transferred price to over $156,434!
Previously the highest asking price for a used Tesla was a black Tesla Model 3 Performance with a mark-up of $40,000.
It had an asking price of $138,000 before on-roads and was listed nearly a year ago in August 2022 and this Model 3 had 45km on the odometer.
Since the listing above, Tesla has cut prices on a new Tesla Model 3 on several occasions this year. Earlier this month, Tesla started the third quarter of 2023 in Australia with another huge price drop of a further $3,500.
This made the previously top-selling Model 3 variants the cheapest they have ever been. A Model 3 Performance starts at $83,400 before on-road costs and is well below the asking price of the used 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance being listed for $150,000.
With Tesla Model 3 listings also stabilising to remain above 500 used cars available at any time since the beginning of this year, it’s showing signs of healthy market development.
The latest data used EV listings data in July reveals 510 used Tesla Model 3s listed across various platforms.
This means that more options are available to used EV buyers which in turn will bring prices down instead. That’s not what’s happened with this example where the asking price of this used EV is a markup of nearly 80% over a new one, leaving many buyers wondering, why.
