Tajikistan plans to generate up to 10% of its electricity with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, Energy and Water Resources Minister Daler Juma said at a press conference on Tuesday.
"We have now designated four projects in this area with our development partners, with capacity of 50 MW to 450 MW. They will be built in Sughd province. Work on the feasibility study is now continuing. We will determine the sources of financing before the end of the year," Juma said.
Tajikistan currently generates up to 98% of its electricity with hydropower plants. Electricity production in 2022 reached about 21.4 billion kWh in 2022, the highest figure since Tajikistan gained independence, the Energy Ministry reported earlier.
