Japanese wind power company Eurus Energy Holdings Corp said on Tuesday it has commenced the repowering of a 43-turbine wind park in Iwate prefecture, northern Japan.
Through subsidiary Eurus Energy Kamaishi LLC, the company is replacing the old equipment with 11 new turbines with an individual capacity of 4.2 MW supplied by Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS). With output control, the wind park is expected to keep its total capacity of around 43 MW, according to the announcement.
Commercial operation at the facility was halted in March 2023 in order to initiate the repowering process. The wind park, located in the cities of Kamaishi, Tono and Otsuchi, is scheduled to come back online in April 2026.
Japanese utility Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9506) is the sole purchaser of the wind park’s output. Eurus noted the generated power is enough to meet the demand of approximately 31,000 average households.
