Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power has inked memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with two prominent Chinese companies. These agreements encompass a wide spectrum of green energy initiatives, including green hydrogen and ammonia production, global renewable energy endeavors, and integrated smart energy solutions.
The MOUs were formally signed with China Southern Power Grid International Co., a state-owned entity specializing in power transmission and distribution, and MingYang Smart Energy Group, a leading provider of clean energy integrated solutions. The signing ceremony took place during the China–Saudi Arabia Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference held in Riyadh, highlighting the strategic importance of this collaboration.
Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power, delivered a keynote address at the conference, emphasizing the growing economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and China. He expressed ACWA Power’s commitment to advancing this collaboration, recognizing its pivotal role in building a sustainable future.
“We are excited to continue working with our Chinese partners to build a more sustainable future. Signing the two MOUs will strengthen our collaboration in green hydrogen and ammonia, global renewable energies, and integrated smart energies,” said Abunayyan. He underscored ACWA Power’s dedication to contributing to the energy transition outlined in Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plan for economic diversification and sustainability.
The partnership between ACWA Power and Chinese companies is not new. The company has a track record of successful collaborations with Chinese entities, including China Energy Engineering Corp., with whom ACWA Power installed Central Asia’s largest wind turbine. Additionally, ACWA Power awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the Rabigh 4 desalination project to a consortium comprising Power China, SEPCOIII, and WETICO.
Moreover, ACWA Power has embarked on innovative projects in local renewable energy and storage development in cooperation with Huawei Digital Power, further demonstrating its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
