The lease sale will be held online via EnergyNet. Those who wish to participate are advised to register as a bidder on the website, in advance, in order to submit bids for a parcel. Further, potential bidders are encouraged to visit the website prior to the start of the open bidding period to become familiar with the site and review the bidding tutorial. “Nevada has some of the best geothermal resources in the country, and BLM is proud to offer additional public land for responsible geothermal development in the state,” said Justin Abernathy, BLM Nevada Deputy State Director of Energy and Minerals.
“BLM has undertaken a rigorous environmental review of these parcels, including receiving input from the public, and we’re confident these are appropriate locations for the development of new clean energy for the benefit of current and future generations.”
In 2022, BLM Nevada held its most successful geothermal lease sale, receiving bids for 66 parcels out of 79 that were offered. This was considered a record-setting figure that reflects an increasing interest in the development of geothermal projects in Nevada. The next Nevada statewide geothermal lease sale is tentatively scheduled for October 2024.
