Contracted over a 15-year period beginning in 2026, the PPA will bring the overall renewable power capacity available to Air Liquide to around 270 MW in Benelux, according to the firm.
This is the second PPA of such scale that Vattenfall signed with the French company which plans to use the electricity to decarbonise its industrial and medical activities in the region and enable its customers to reduce the carbon content of their end products to foster a low-carbon economy in Europe.
In all, the PPAs signed in the region will enable Air Liquide to reduce emissions related to power production of up to 8.5 million tonnes of CO2 over the duration of the contracts, which is comparable to the emissions generated by over 350,000 Dutch households, according to the company.
“This new large-scale PPA with Vattenfall marks an important milestone in securing renewable energy to enable Air Liquide to provide low-carbon solutions to its customers and support their decarbonisation efforts,” said Emilie Mouren-Renouard, Chief Executive Officer of the Europe Industries Hub.
The 1.5 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid was officially inaugurated on September 29 by the Dutch King Willem-Alexander and board members of Vattenfall, BASF, and Allianz.
The subsidy-free offshore wind farm is located 18-36 kilometres off the Dutch coast between the towns of Scheveningen and Zandvoort and features 139 Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines.
The project is expected to be fully operational in 2024 and will be serviced out of the IJmuiden Port.
