In response to the increasing demand for dam upgrades in Queensland, international design, engineering, and advisory firm Aurecon and dams and hydropower engineering firm Tractebel have entered into a strategic Teaming Agreement. This collaboration aims to provide a comprehensive range of advisory and engineering services to the Queensland dam market.

The partnership leverages the combined expertise of Aurecon and Tractebel, offering a holistic suite of services for the planning and execution of significant dam projects. Encompassing dam safety assessments, detailed design, construction assurance, operations readiness, environmental assessments, and strategic advisory services, the partnership sets out to address the full spectrum of the dam project lifecycle.

Marius Jonker, Technical Director for Dams at Aurecon, emphasized that the partnership is a response to the growing demand for dam upgrades in Queensland. He pointed out that the region has emerged as a global hub for dam infrastructure projects, driven by factors such as climate change, aging assets, and the need to safeguard communities.

Jonker stated: "By combining Aurecon’s leading engineering and advisory capability with Tractebel’s global dam engineering expertise, we are empowering our Queensland clients to confidently deliver the pipeline of dam projects for the benefit of communities across the state. We are very excited to bring contemporary and transformative capability and capacity to the Queensland dam market, enabling us to work with clients to tackle their most complex problems."

Evelyn Storey, Managing Director for Queensland at Aurecon, highlighted that the partnership will bolster Aurecon's position in the market and align with the organization's commitment to delivering safe and sustainable solutions. She noted: "This partnership is founded on the shared values and vision of the two organizations, and a shared belief that we can deliver far greater value to our clients together than we can separately."

Matthieu Béraud, Head of Water at Tractebel, stressed that partnering with Aurecon allows Tractebel to concentrate their global expertise on the Queensland dams market. He underlined Tractebel's legacy of delivering large and intricate dam projects globally and their recent entry into the Australian market through projects like Snowy 2.0 and Big T, aimed at pumped hydro storage.

Béraud explained: "Our aim is to support our clients in their transition to cleaner energy, ensuring safe, reliable, and long-lasting dams and hydraulic infrastructure. Combining our experience with Aurecon’s eminent Australian-based dams capability and its broad infrastructure engineering and advisory expertise, this partnership enables us to focus our business on the needs of Queensland dams clients."
