A memorandum of understanding for the project had been signed on 28 November 2024 between Triosan and the Lviv Regional Military Administration (Lviv OVA) and Lviv Regional Council. The MOU envisages cooperation between the parties regarding the construction of the greenhouse complex.
There has been a shortage of greenhouse vegetables in Ukraine because of the temporary occupation in the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. The project will provide a supply of vegetable products to the region, including tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and lettuce. It is expected that the produce will be more affordable owing to the low cost of energy resources.
The use of geothermal resources will allow for the greenhouse complex to operate independent of gas supply. Gas savings will amount to about 8 million cubic meters per year. The project will also generate jobs for 180 people.
About EUR 70 million are being invested in the project. Triosan will cover the expenses, and Lviv OVA Head Maksym Kozytskyi said that the company has already signed an agreement with an American financial company to secure funding.
Lviv is located in western Ukraine, in the Carpathian fold and thrust belt region, which is one of the high-potential geothermal regions identified in Ukraine.
