In Sandikli district of Afyonkarahisar in Türkiye, thermal water, which is used for heating houses and greenhouses as well as tourism, is now being used to provide heating in bus stops. The bus stops have four-wall enclosures and are heated with geothermal water from Hudai Hot Springs.

The Sandikli district is well-known for its geothermal resources. Its geothermal greenhouses have been growing tomatoes using a soilless farming method, and its produce has been exported to Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK.

The use of geothermal water provided an effective solution against the cold weather in winter. This innovative and environmentally friendly application has received positive feedback from the residents of the district.

Bus stops heated with geothermal water have been put into operation in Sandikli district centre and Hudai Hot Springs bus stops. Thanks to these bus stops, passengers can wait for buses in a warm environment on winter days. In addition to the seats of the bus stops built by the municipality, honeycombs were placed to provide heating.

Mehmet Dikici, one of the residents of the district, stated that they are waiting for the bus without getting cold and said, “It is nice, of course, when it snows, when it is cold, the citizen comes inside while waiting for the bus and sits warmly.”
