Renova Delays Startup of Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass Power Plant

25 Jan 2024  by biomassmagazine
Japan-based Renova Inc. on Jan. 24 announced that startup of its 75-megawatt (MW) Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass Power Plant will be delayed. The plant, which was originally expected to be operational in January, is now expected to commence operations in March.

According to Renova, commissioning activities at the facility are ongoing. The delay is the result of additional time required to make final adjustments to the boiler and turbine facilities to ensure long-term stable operations at the plant. Once fully operational, the facility will be fueled by wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS).

This is the second such delay announced by the company in recent months. In December, Renova announced that startup of its 75-MW Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant would be delayed by several months. That facility was also originally expected to be operational in January and is currently expected to begin operations in March.

The Ishinomaki Hibarino and Omaezakikou biomass power plants are two of several biomass power plants developed by Renova. In November 2023, the company announced its 75-MW Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant had begun operations. The following month Renova announced startup of its 74.8 MW Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant. Additional Renova biomass plants that are currently operational include the 20.5 MW Akita Biomass facility and the 75 MW Kanda Biomass plant. The 49.9 MW Karatsu Biomass facility is currently under construction.
