Clean energy solutions company Enviromena has submitted plans for a 40MW solar farm to Doncaster City Council.
The 190-acre site, aiming to be located northwest of the city centre, will support Doncaster Council’s wider objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
After declaring a climate and biodiversity emergency due to suffering the effects of climate change in 2019, the council has been making concerted efforts to diversify its energy sources.
The Marr site, designed to blend in with the local greenery, is predicted to achieve a 71% biodiversity net gain and a 47% gain in hedgerow units, hugely surpassing the national minimum target of 10%.
This project is the latest installment of Enviromena’s rapidly growing solar and battery storage portfolio going into planning over the next six months, which will altogether make up a 400MW pipeline of projects.
Mark Harding, Enviromena’s European development director said: “We are delighted to submit plans for our project at Marr to the Doncaster City Council planning team. We’ve carried out significant engagement with the local community and councillors as part of our pre-application activities and all feedback has been considered when shaping our final plans to go into planning.
“At a time when fuel prices continue to look uncertain, we are pleased to see a number of our sites receive unanimous planning approval from local councils in recent times, which goes to show the eagerness and appetite for clean energy facilities.”
Enviromena’s UK expansion
Reading-based renewable energy firm Enviromena has been slowly encroaching on the UK’s solar and battery industry over the past year.
One of the first instances was its solar farm in Winchester going online in February 2023. The 25.4MW site at Three Maids Hill currently comprises 47,088 bifacial modules installed across 110 acres.
In October 2023, the firm managed to raise £65 million in equity to support its target of constructing a 500MW portfolio by 2025.
Enviromena plans to have 110MW of projects out of the planning process by April 2024, as well as the 400MW pipeline of projects due to be submitted over the next six months.
