"The repair campaign in the nuclear industry was scheduled to start on March 13. However, the current situation allows us to launch it five days earlier, from March 8. This will allow us to prepare nuclear power units faster for the 2024-2025 autumn and winter season, optimize the schedules of repair and preventive maintenance, including fuel reloading," Ukrainian media reported, quoting the Energy Ministry as saying on social media.
The optimization of the repair schedule will ensure a steady power supply both in the summer and during the next heating season, it said.
Several NPP power units are operating at a lower capacity and Energoatom is preparing them for scheduled repairs due to a surplus of electricity in Ukraine's power system for the second week in a row, the ministry said.
As of March 7, Ukrainian NPPs generate 6,950 MW.
As previously reported, Energoatom is running three operating NPPs in the Ukrainian-controlled territory, namely the Rovno, Khmelnitsky and South Ukrainian NPPs, with a combined installed capacity of nine power units totaling 7.8 GW.
