Indonesian operator Energi Mega Persada (EMP) is preparing for the potential fast-track exploitation of its latest gas discovery on the Bentu block on the island of Sumatra.
Subsidiary EMP Bentu delivered with the CEN-01 well, which found an approximate 126 billion cubic feet of gas in place. The next steps will include development drilling, construction of a pipeline and additional production facilities to handle the gas, according to EMP director Tri Firmanto.
“We hope to be able to start producing gas from the CEN-01 well with an average volume of 45 million cubic feet of gas per day in the future,” he told local media.
Assuming a gas price of $6 per million British thermal units, this incremental output could be worth approximately $270,000 per day or almost $100 million annually. EMP gets a 30% profit share of the gas produced at Bentu, according to the company’s website.
Tri, who has a background in petroleum engineering and chemical engineering, is one of several new directors and commissioners that EMP appointed in December to accelerate the development of its assets. In his new role, Tri manages and coordinates the operations of domestic assets including the producing Bentu, Korinci, Sengkang and Kangean blocks.
EMP has a 100% operated interest in the Bentu block, which last year produced an average 81 MMcfd of gas.
