Prevalon Energy LLC, the recently spun-off battery business of Mitsubishi Power Americas, said on Friday it has been contracted to install a 328-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for utility Idaho Power.
The four-hour facility will be built to store electricity from intermittent power generation sources such as wind and solar parks, thus enhancing the grid’s resiliency and helping Idaho Power achieve stable power supply during peak demand periods. The system is due to become operational in 2025.
Under the contract, awarded after a competitive bidding process, Prevalon will deliver a solution that includes battery enclosures, inverters, medium voltage transformers and an energy management system. The company will also provide long-term maintenance and remote monitoring services.
The BESS project’s implementation is aligned with Idaho Power’s plan to add more than 5 GW of wind and solar power capacity over the next 20 years.
