Mytilineos Energy & Metals in Consortium with Siemens Energy has undertaken the construction of a 560MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power unit at the Adamów Power Plant in Turek, Poland.

The Adamów Power Plant was owned and operated by Polish developer ZespoŁ Elektrowni Patnow-Adamow-Konin (ZE PAK Group) and was closed at the beginning of January 2018.

An EPC contract has been signed with ZE PAK’s subsidiary PAK CCGT to construct the 560MW power plant.

Polish and international contracting companies and suppliers will be engaged to develop the 500 million euro ($542 million) project, which is expected to be completed in Q2, 2027.

The plant will consist of one gas turbine and one condensing steam turbine, using a closed, wet mechanical draft cooling tower arrangement, as well as a gas installation in the power plant area with accompanying infrastructure.

According to Mytilineos, at its construction peak, 700 workers and supervisors are expected to be involved in the site.

This is the second Polish energy project for Mytilineos. The company is also currently constructing a 560MW CCGT in Grudziadz, also in consortium with Siemens Energy.

According to think tank Ember, Poland still produces 79% of its electricity from fossil fuels, with 69% coming from coal in 2022. Only 21% of Poland’s electricity comes from renewable energy sources, among the lowest in the EU. Unambitious policies are hindering progress to cleaner generation, with coal phase out only scheduled for 2049.

According to Mytilineos, CCGT projects play an important role in providing energy security in Poland, as well as Europe, and gas will continue as a transitional fuel supplementing intermittent renewables
