Most Critical Areas for Energy Transformation Revealed

Rocky Mountain Institute has published a new report which looks at the most critical areas hindering the energy transition.

The report ‘Seven Challenges for Energy Transformation’ provides a roadmap to help energy stakeholders to address climate change and sustainability goals within the next 10 years.

The report provides recommendations on how to keep global temperature rise well to below 2 degrees Celsius within the next three to five years.

Among the recommendations are::

· Increasing investments in sustainability programmes and how to do so

· Improve policies and cross-sectoral partnerships

· Decisive actions on the part of citizens, corporations, philanthropic institutions, subnational leaders, regulators and policymakers

· Scale new and existing technologies

Jules Kortenhorst, the CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute, said the report forms part of “efforts to mobilise the world’s top leaders to solve it together," continuing that it is "a critical first step to bring about urgently needed change.

“The time for action is now. The window of opportunity to avoid the most severe consequences is closing quickly.”

Richard Kauffman, chair of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, added: “Working together, public and private institutions can harness market forces to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technologies dramatically.

“I'm proud New York is showing how these partnerships are making good progress towards our climate goals."
