Hygenco aims to establish a large-scale green ammonia project in Gopalpur that would produce 1 million tonnes per year of green ammonia in different phases. Commissioning of the initial phase is targetted by December 2026.
The partnership follows an approval received in February 2024 from Odisha’s High-Level Clearance Authority.
The output of the project’s initial phase will be exported and Hygenco is in advanced discussions with various off-takers, according to the announcement.
Manikanta Naik, managing director of Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Ltd, said that Hygenco joining the Industrial Park will solidify it as a potential green hydrogen and ammonia hub of the country.
