Cleanpeak Turns Sod on 38-MW Solar Project in Victoria

Aussie renewables developer and operator CleanPeak Energy has started building a 38-MW solar park that will be feeding electricity to the grid in the state of Victoria.

CleanPeak announced the sod-turning ceremony in a LinkedIn post, saying the event was attended by company officials and government representatives.

The photovoltaic (PV) park will be installed near the town of Wangaratta in northeastern Victoria, connecting to the grid through a substation at Glenrowan, which is situated within the Wangaratta local government area. Once in operation, it is expected to generate around 75 GW of clean electricity annually.

CleanPeak plans to bring the Wangaratta plant online by the end of this year. Its output will go for the company’s own consumption at four microgrids where it services more than 5000 customers.

According to the project’s website, the PV site will be coupled with a 15-MWh battery energy storage facility. Grid-connection approval will be later sought to add 65 MWh more storage as a second phase.
