Nordex Exceeds 5 GW Threshold for Wind Energy Installations in the Nordic Countries

14 Jun 2024  by evwind

With the installation of an N163/5.X turbine at the Kalistanneva wind farm in Finland, the Nordex Group has surpassed the threshold of 5 GW of installed capacity in the Nordic region. A total of 1,234 “Made by Nordex” wind turbines are currently in operation in Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway and produce clean electricity for 2 million homes. Distributed by country, 2.6 GW correspond to wind farms in Finland, 1.6 GW to parks in Sweden, 641 MW to parks in Norway and 152 MW to wind farms in Denmark.

“Nordic markets are often characterized by complex terrain, difficult site access, challenging weather conditions and high expectations for HSE management. Our customers know that we can overcome these challenges and, thanks to our cold climate variants and Nordex’s advanced anti-icing system, we also offer proven solutions for high turbine availability in the long and demanding winter months,” says Till Junge, Vice President of the Nordic region of the Nordex Group.

The Nordex Group installed its first wind turbines in the region of Denmark in the mid-1980s. Today, Finland and Sweden are the drivers of new wind energy projects in the Nordic countries.

“With our long track record and a strong and dedicated local team in the Nordics, we are committed to supporting our customers in the region for years to come. Thanks to our large rotors, powerful turbines and high tower variants, we are in a good position to maintain our market position and continuously expand our installation base in the region,” adds Ibrahim Özarslan, CEO of the Group’s European Division. Nordex.

The Group has installed around 50 GW of wind energy capacity in more than 40 markets throughout its corporate history and generated consolidated sales of around €6.5 billion in 2023. The company currently has more than 10,000 employees. The Group’s manufacturing network includes factories in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, USA (suspended) and Mexico. Its product portfolio focuses on onshore turbines in the 4 to 6 MW+ classes that are designed to meet the market requirements of countries with limited available space and regions with limited grid capacity
