Wood wins FEED for UK offshore field redevelopmentCentrica's Rough field will be optimised for hydrogen storageConsulting and engineering company Wood has won the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the redevelopment of by Centrica Energy Storage’s (CES) Rough field offshore the UK in readiness for future hydrogen storage.
“We have huge ambitions for the future of Rough… we are ready to invest in futureproofing this critical asset subject to agreeing a regulatory support model that would underpin gas storage investment in the UK,” commented CES managing director Martin Scargill.
The Rough reservoir, located in the Southern North Sea, has safely stored natural gas for more than 30 years and has the potential to provide over half of the UK’s hydrogen storage requirements.
Wood’s FEED contract encompasses new pipelines, a new unmanned installation, as well as onshore injection facilities at the Easington Gas Terminal, and is the first step towards making the Rough field hydrogen ready.
Steve Nicol, executive president, operations at Wood said the innovative redevelopment project is critical to both the UK’s long-term energy security and its industrial decarbonisation commitments.
