Origin Cancels 204-MW Solar Projects in Australia

22 Aug 2024  by Solar

Origin Energy has scrapped its 74-megawatt (MW) Carisbrook and 130-MW Morgan solar projects due to anticipated low returns on investment.

“Due to unfavourable conditions, we are no longer pursuing the Morgan solar farm and the Carisbrook solar development project has been impaired as it is considered unlikely that it can earn a suitable return on investment,” the company said in its recently released sustainability report.

The company said it still has other large-scale renewable energy projects in its portfolio. These include the Sailsbury Solar Farm development project, the Dapper Solar Farm, and the Yanco and Yarrabee solar development projects.

Origin aims to grow its renewable and storage capacity to four to five gigawatts (GW) by 2030 from currently 1.8 GW.
