German renewables company BayWa r.e. AG announced that it has secured approval to develop a solar farm of up to 60 MWp in County Tipperary, Ireland.
Ireland’s planning board An Board Pleanala and Tipperary County Council granted planning permission for the company to assemble the Springmount solar farm on approximately 69 hectares (170.5 acres) land located west of the town of Clonmel.
BayWa r.e. said this was its first successful application in Ireland, where it has a “strong pipeline” of wind, solar and energy storage projects.
The next steps for BayWa r.e. Ireland is to apply for a grid connection, and expects to receive an offer in 2025. This means that the construction of Springmount could begin in 2026, with commissioning anticipated for 2027.
