Qatarenergy Announces New Solar Power Plant to Double Production by 2030

ALBAWABA – QatarEnergy, formerly Qatar Petroleum, the state-owned petroleum company of Qatar that operates all oil and gas activities including exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage, announced building a new solar power plant to double the country’s production by 2030.

QatarEnergy said this decision aims to reduce carbon emissions and save electricity. The new solar station is expected to boost Qatar’s electricity production by 2030 for about 4,000 megawatts, as the production capacity of the new station is set to be around 2,000 megawatts.

H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Deputy Chairman and President & CEO of QatarEnergy, stated: “I am pleased to announce that, in line with our Sustainability Strategy, we will more than double our solar power production capacity to about 4,000 megawatts by 2030 through the world-scale, 2,000 megawatt Dukhan Solar Power Plant.”

It is worth noting that the new solar power plant station will be established in Dukhan area, under QatarEnergy’s portfolio, in addition to three other plants.

With the addition of the Dukhan solar plant, QatarEnergy’s solar projects will have a total capacity of approximately 4,000 megawatts by 2030, representing nearly 30% of Qatar’s total electricity generation capacity.
