Tambak Lorok, able to supply power for approximately five million homes, is powered by GE Vernova’s 9HA.02 gas turbine, a STF-D650 steam turbine, Once Through HRSG and balance of plant equipment.
In addition to the core power plant equipment delivered in a combined cycle configuration, GE Vernova has also signed a 15-year service agreement to manage all aspects of the project’s lifecycle, training and maintenance management.
The training will support skills development and knowledge transfer to improve the capability of PLN IP’s operations team.
Edwin Nugraha Putra, CEO of PLN Indonesia Power, commented on the announcement: “Tambak Lorok project represents a milestone for Indonesia, adding to the system a large-capacity plant that brings stability to the country’s electricity matrix.”
According to Putra, the project aligns with the country’s national energy policy to phase out coal-fired power plants, replacing them with lower emissions options that can provide necessary flexibility.
Ramesh Singaram, president and CEO, Asia of GE Vernova’s Gas Power, commented on GE Vernova’s commitment to support Indonesia’s power development and growth, citing the ability of their HA technology to reduce fuel consumption while also lowering carbon emissions.
The H-class technology will lower plant emissions with an impact of up to 60% compared to other plants of the same size powered by diesel, coal and other fossil fuels, claims GE Vernova.
The H-Class gas turbine portfolio can also burn up to 50% by volume of hydrogen when blended with natural gas, opening up opportunities for future decarbonisation efforts.
The project is being delivered by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), GE Power, Marubeni and PT Hutama Karya (Persero).
