Energy equipment manufacturing and services company GE Vernova has secured a 140MW wind turbine order in Romania.

The company will supply, install and commission 23 turbines, each with a capacity of 6.1MW, for a wind project located in Vaslui County.

The agreement with Public Power Corporation Renewables (PPCR) was finalised in the second quarter of 2024.

GE Vernova onshore wind business international markets chief commercial officer Gilan Sabatier stated: “We are honoured that PPC Renewables has chosen GE Vernova turbines for their Vaslui project in Romania.

“This project re-inforces our ongoing commitment to help lead the energy transition in the European Union, where we have a long history, have installed thousands of wind turbines, and are using our latest technology in projects like this.”

Initial turbine deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2025, with the wind farm fully operational by the end of the year.

PPC Renewables CEO and group deputy CEO Konstantinos Mavros stated: “We are grateful for signing a new supply agreement with GE Vernova, for the implementation of our emblematic wind park in Vaslui County, Romania which consists of 23 wind turbines of total installed power of 140MW.

“Our energy portfolio is gradually expanding into new countries setting PPC as the largest clean energy company in southeast Europe with 4.7GW production capacity from renewables, projects of 2.8GW under construction or at the ready-to-build stage, and a project pipeline of 20GW.”

In June 2024, Ukrainian energy investor DTEK Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GE Vernova to develop wind power projects in Ukraine and the European Union.

The partnership, finalised at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, aimed to enhance collaboration in renewable energy and improve grid infrastructure.

The MoU includes exploring advanced solutions for upgrading Ukraine’s electricity grid.
