Cause of Finland OL2 Nuclear Outage Identified, Operator Says

13 Sep 2024  by reuters
Finland's TVO has identified the cause of the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear generator fault and expects the plant to return to production at the end of September, in line with an earlier estimate, the company said on Thursday.

The OL2 outage began on Sept. 9 due to an increase in moisture detected in the turbine plant's generator.

"The issue has been identified as a fault in the rotor of the water-cooled generator," TVO said in a statement on Thursday.

OL2 has a nominal power capacity of 890 MW, and its electricity accounts for about 8% of the power used in Finland, it added.

The OL1 and OL3 units at Olkiluoto were operating normally, TVO said.
