The company Aguas de Ponta Preta, operated by the Catalan company Impulso Energía, has inaugurated the 6 MWp Santa Maria photovoltaic plant on the island of Sal, considered the largest in the country.

The installation covers 8 hectares and is located in the Fatima and Santa Maria area of ??the aforementioned island, which is assured to have increased the penetration rate of renewable energies by 40%.

It is estimated that the photovoltaic plant will produce 10.5 GWh/year.

At the inauguration ceremony, the president of the Board of Directors, Norberto Lariba, stated that the price of the energy produced by this plant is less than 5 Cape Verdean escudos (0.045 euros) kWh for the first 15 years.

This project involves a power purchase agreement (PPA) between the DNICE (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy) and the company Aguas de Ponta Preta, which is part of the Impulso holding company and has been operating for 25 years on several of the Cape Verde islands, with its headquarters on the island of Sal.
