rPlus Energies has commenced construction of the Green River Energy Center, a significant solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage project in eastern Utah, US.

The development, which includes a 400MW solar PV facility and a 400MW/1,600 megawatt hours (MWh) battery storage system, represents one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects underway in the country.

Governor of Utah Spencer Cox stated: “This project is being built in rural Utah, by rural Utahns, and for all of Utah. When rural Utah thrives, the entire state prospers.

“Today, we’re not just breaking ground — we’re building a future of affordable, abundant energy in Utah.”

The project will deliver clean energy to PacifiCorp under a power purchase agreement (PPA).

The project secured more than $1bn in construction debt financing in early 2024 and will create 500 jobs.

Sundt Construction is serving as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, while EliTe Solar provides the solar modules and Tesla delivers the battery storage system.

rPlus Energies president and CEO Luigi Resta stated: “It’s the partners that make this project special, that have made this monumental project possible.

“From our equipment providers to the onsite talent, and the support of the local and regional community, we owe this project’s success to each of you.”

In March 2024, rPlus Energies modified its previous PPA with PacifiCorp for the Green River Energy Center, a solar and energy storage project located in Emery County, Utah.
