Indian wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy Ltd (BOM:532667) on Thursday announced a 400-MW order from Jindal Renewables Power Pvt Ltd, part of Indian conglomerate Jindal Group, for a project to decarbonise steel production.

Suzlon will supply 127 turbines with hybrid lattice tubular towers, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, to be installed in the Koppal region of Karnataka. The electricity generated will be used for captive consumption in steel plants located in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

According to the announcement, this is the industry's largest commercial and industrial (C&I) order so far. It brings Suzlon's cumulative order book to nearly 5.4 GW.

"As part of our commitment to cleaner energy solutions, we are taking breakthrough steps to integrate green energy into steelmaking, reducing the group's overall carbon footprint and ensuring long-term sustainability,” said Jindal Renewables president Bharat Saxena. The partnership is in line with the group's net zero commitment by 2047, Saxena added.
