A battery energy storage will also be built to support the plant.

OX2 has secured its inaugural onshore wind power project in Australia, with a planned total installed capacity of up to one gigawatt. This will also have a 100 megawatt (MW) battery energy storage facility that will be developed in advance of the wind farm.

The site is located north of Perth in Western Australia and involves more than 20 landowners. The original developers will work with OX2 to continue to manage the approval process, as part of the acquisition.

“Australia is on the road to decarbonisation and has great opportunities to leverage its natural resources with excellent conditions for wind and solar power,” said Rachel Watson, country manager of OX2 Australia.

OX2 entered the Australian market in 2023 by acquiring solar energy developer ESCO Pacific. Since then, it has divested three solar projects and is currently preparing to oversee the construction of one of them.

The company’s Australian project development portfolio includes approximately one gigawatt of solar projects and 230 MW of energy storage projects across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland.
