The firm has selected Swiss-based Casale as its sole EPC contractor for its Villeta development.
An experienced licensor of ammonia technologies, ATOME has said Casale will leverage its ammonia and nitrates experience to deliver the facility.
“Nomination of our EPC contractor is one of the final key milestones of our Villeta project,” said Olivier Mussat, ATOME CEO, adding that Casale will be an “important strategic partner” in realising the flagship development.
The plant will use green hydrogen produced using hydropower as a feedstock in the generation of green calcium ammonium nitrate.
Having already signed a Heads of Terms offtake agreement with Yara for 264,000 tonnes of CAN per year, ATOME is expected to take final investment decision (FID) before the end of 2024.
In addition to the EPC selection, the company has appointed ex-AECOM director of hydrogen for Europe, Sam Mackillingan to the non-board position of Head of Engineering and Project Management.
“We are also so pleased to welcome Sam,” Mussat said, “as we progress to the next stages of project engineering.”
Beyond Villeta, ATOME plans to build a 300MW project in Yguazu, Paraguay, and a 120MW development in Costa Rica.
